Alabama Telecommunications Access Program (ATAP)

What is ATAP?

ATAP provides electronic devices and other adaptive equipment to Alabamians with a hearing loss and/ or speech disability who require an amplified device to access the telephone from their local or long distance telecommunication carrier.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Alabama Picture ID
  • Hard of Hearing, Deaf, Speech Disabled or DeafBlind
  • Telephone Landline Service or Internet Service/Cell Phone Provider Service
  • Meet Income Eligibility Requirement

What Type of Equipment is Available?

  • TTY, large visual display(LVD)TTYs and CapTel
  • Amplified phones and ring/flashers
  • Voice Carry-Over and Hearing Carry-Over telephones
  • In-Home notification systems for door, phone, etc.
  • TTY software and corresponding modem for a personal computer
  • Other adaptive equipment needed to connect to the telephone system
